Valio’s Food 2.0 ecosystem celebrates its 100th member SuperGround
In February, Valio started the Business Finland -funded R&D project Food 2.0, aiming to build a partner ecosystem of at least 100 organizations and create a Finnish nature-smart food system in which growth, profitability and added value are built on the basis of sustainable production. Now, we celebrate a milestone when 100th member, SuperGround joined the ecosystem.
“The renewal of our food system is only possible with extensive cooperation between businesses, research institutes and other organizations. Hundreds of companies and other operators are connected to the food system just in Finland, so we aim to grow the ecosystem even further in Finland and also internationally”, says Valio’s Ecosystem Lead Veera Virtanen.
High-quality food products through upcycling side streams
SuperGround is a Finnish industrial partner for global food production companies. Their innovative food processing technology refines side streams like bones and hard tissues from fish and poultry into sustainable and tasty products.
“We see that the Food 2.0 project as a whole is an important and very potential stepping stone for co-innovation, as well as for commercializing and scaling up the SuperGround technology. We seek partners from the Food 2.0 ecosystem who want to valorize their animal based side streams back to the food chain. We see great value in working together towards a common goal – a renewed food system where nothing goes to waste”, stated Jaakko Kaminen, SuperGround’s CEO.
